Term Six

This term our topic is “Castles and Crowns” which has been chosen to follow the children’s interest in the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We are going to be learning more about castles and making some models of them and find out our more about Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family. We also have Sports day to look forward to and lots of end of term excitement!

We have been learning all about our senses! First we drew around each other and labelled the body parts used for each sense, then we used our smell and taste to try some different herbs. Finally we used touch to have a sensory walk through different things!

We made clay castles this week and the children chose whether they would like a 2D or 3D castle. They looked brilliant!

We had a great drumming session this week, the children all really enjoyed learning a new skill!

Look at the fantastic flags we made this week in Forest a school using mud!!

Term Five

We are very excited about our topic this term “Where do you think you are? Edith Weston!” which is a whole School theme, focusing on our local area. We have lots of wonderful things to look forward to including a walk around the village and a visit to the Church, a picnic at Rutland Water, a visit to the Osprey Centre and also celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee too!

Look at our fantastic printing in art this week!

The children have been enjoying our multi-skills session in PE so far this term.

This term our science topic is Plants so we went on a hunt outside to see what plants we could identify. We found buttercups, daisies, dandelions, cowslip, grass and daffodils. The next day in our computing session, our focus was on photography so we took the iPads outside to photograph the plants that we had found the previous day!

Year One have been learning about making equal groups this week and have really persevered when it was a challenge for them at the beginning!

We worked in pairs this week to draw a story map for “A Squash and a Squeeze” which helped us to write our recounts of the story too!

Term Four

This term we are changing our focus to learning about 'Animals around the World!'. We are really excited to start our new topic and we think the children will love it too! We will be learning about the seven continents and finding out what the weather is like there and all about the animals that live there. Keep a look out on our web page for all of our wonderful activities this term!

Parrots class had the best day at Sacrewell Farm! They represented Edith Weston fantastically on their first school trip and really embraced everything on offer. We loved seeing all of the animals and also spending time in the huge play barn! 🐄🐑🐖

For Science week, we have explored growing so we went on a plant hunt in Forest School to see the beginnings of Spring 🌸

We have been learning how to use a laptop mouse to create digital content and save it in a specified folder in Computing 😊

We had a wonderful sunny afternoon in the allotment area for Forest School this week, planting our lettuce shoots that we have grown from the seeds on our Sacrewell Farm visit. We are looking forward to watching them grow!

The children are loving basketball for PE this term, even more so being able to practise in the sunshine outside! 🏀

This term our topic is 'Awe and Wonder' with a focus on Space!

We are really looking forward to learning all about the Solar System and the planets, light and dark, day and night, Neil Armstrong and the International Space Station.

We have been discussing why sleep is important in PSHE and what we can do to relax! Everyone focused really well on our space yoga adventure as we enjoyed some quiet time.

Our story this week was 'Whatever Next' so we wrote instructions to make jam sandwiches and then made them, before taking them to Forest School to eat them in our rocket ship den!

Some of the Reception children have been learning about part-whole models and addition with Mrs Mohammed, amazing!

Everyone is really engaged in our Space topic. The children made solar system models from different fruits and (mostly!) enjoyed taste testing them afterwards!

Year One have been learning about freezing and melting in our materials science topic. We discussed solids and liquids then explored how to melt ice to free the dinosaurs!

Look at the Reception children exploring capacity! We measured how much water different containers would hold, pouring the water between them and then filling them with cubes!
