Term 6 - Up & Under & All Around
Week 1 and 2 - Up!
Over the last 2 weeks we have focused on Up in the sky and what is above us. We used the story The Great Balloon Hullabaloo and the song 'Up, Up, Up' to inspire our learning and writing. This has produced some lovely writing opportunities for both Reception and Year 1. In Maths the children have worked really hard. Reception have been looking at a variety of ways to make number bonds to 10, whilst year 1 have been recapping money. In science we are learning about the Human body and have all enjoyed completing a skeleton drawing and learning about our 5 senses by completing a taste and smell test of a variety of different foods.
We all enjoyed outdoor learning day completing many fun activities from bashing leaves onto fabric in Forest School to drawing shadows on the playground using chalk.
A great start to our new topic - well done boys and girls!
Week 3 and 4 - On the ground!
We enjoyed using the story 'Were going on a Bear Hunt' to inspire our writing. Year 1 wrote some lovely recounts and Reception were able to order and sequence the story, writing their own captions. The children enjoyed a sensory walk through lots of different textures, flour, ice, gloop and much much more!
Week 5 and 6 - Under the sea.
To conclude our topic we enjoyed using 'The Snail and the Whale' story to base our writing on. All children completed some fantastic research about Whales, and Year 1 completed their own Whale fact sheets which they enjoyed writing what they had learnt. The children completed some lovely clay models of their favourite sea creatures - these were very real life and the children really enjoyed completing this activity.
Overall, we have had the most fantastic last term at school with so much fun. The children have worked incredibly hard and coped so well with the year we have had.
Have the most wonderful Summer break and we will see you all in September.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed this topic. We have looked at many aspects of Minibeast life and used 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', 'Superworm' and a focus on Worms to inspire our learning and especially our Year 1 writers. We have produced stories, leaflets, posters and information fact files. All children have loved growing our own Caterpillars and enjoyed releasing them into the wild after 6 weeks. The Year 1s created their own Wormery as a real-life stimulus to writing a set of instructions. All children have excelled and learnt lots, using fantastic vocabulary along the way.
We have been so busy since we arrived back from lockdown!
This term we have enjoyed a Whole school topic which has allowed us to complete many wonderful activities and learning.
In PSHE week we enjoyed circle times, 'Toasty Tuesday', making glitter jars, happy feelings bags, art work and producing some wonderful writing all about Feelings Monsters. The children all worked really hard together to make our garden look bright and colourful by planting a range of plants kindly donated by the local garden centre.
During Art week we all enjoyed working collaboratively and producing a whole class project, using David Hockey as inspiration.
In Science week we have completed fun and exciting experiments. We added water to skittles and watched all the different colours run, make towers using biscuits and melted chocolate, and cups of paint with holes in to make some messy art.
Term 4 learning.
Christmas Video!
Here is our fantastic Christmas video! The children have been amazing this term and we are so proud of how well they have all coped with how different things have been this year. They have shown brilliant resilience and they all deserve a relaxing Christmas break!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Term 2
This term our topic is "Let's Sparkle!". We are beginning with a focus on Bonfire Night and Autumn before learning all about Diwali. Then we are learning about the Arctic and Antarctic before changing our focus to Christmas towards the holidays!
We have been learning how to program the Bee Bots in computing this term, making them follow our instructions to go in the right direction on the maps.
We have been learning about 3D shapes this week. Look at our fantastic models!
We had a lovely time at Forest School this week with Miss Dolby who lit the campfire for us and we all enjoyed hot chocolate!
This term we are beginning with a focus on All About Me whilst we settle back into school life and get to know each other. We are then moving onto Fairytales including: Three Little Pigs, Goldilocks, Billy Goats Gruff, Little Red Hen and also Hansel and Gretel.
We had a lovely first visit to the woodland area with lots of time to explore and see what has changed over the last few months!
In computing this week we have been learning how to use the iPad to take a selfie!
We had another great woodland visit where we were making self-portraits using natural items. Take a look! 😊
The children have been enjoying spending time in our renovated garden area and mud kitchen in our playground!
We all enjoyed making bread this week as our focus story was 'The Little Red Hen'. Everyone listened carefully and followed the instructions to knead and shape their dough. The best part was getting to taste test it with jam though!
In computing this term, we have been learning how to draw on the paint program on a laptop using the mouse pad and left key. The children found it quite tricky at first to hold the left key and move the mouse at the same time, but they all persevered and made some fantastic pictures!
